Thinkbaby Bottle Review

My baby daughter just turned one!   What a year it has been!!  She was just under 6 lbs when we brought her home from the hospital; its hard to remember that she was ever so small.  She has grown like a weed, changing almost daily since birth.  Today, she is walking, talking her baby-babble with a few “real” words in between, she can be as stubborn as a splinter and most certainly knows what she likes, what she wants, and what she doesn’t.

This brings me to her bottle.  Not only does she enjoy the goats milk it now contains, but she also gets a kick out of holding it between her front teeth (by the nipple) while she crawls around like a “goggie” (aka doggie).   She also likes to tip the bottle upside down and let the milk fall onto her bare legs & then rub it in like lotion!  What a hoot!   Her baby doll is lucky to receive her “leftovers” ; she so delicately places the nipple on the dolls mouth to feed her… I should get the doll a bib.   Many a nap time she cradles her empty bottle as she falls asleep on my lap, her fingers a death grip around its neck as I attempt to remove the bottle before laying her down to sleep.

In other words, my daughter is attached to her bottle.   OK, extremely attached.  So, a couple of months ago when I introduced her first sippy cup full of milk she wanted nothing to do with it.  It took only a couple weeks to glean some interest at which time I discovered the promises of a no -drip spout were badly broken… all over my living room.   I had her interested, now I just had to shop for a sippy cup that kept promises.

I did find a sippy cup with a truly NO-drip spout, unfortunately it was so non-drippy that even the most liquid of liquids wouldn’t seep through when I sucked on the spout like it was the last water source on earth.  And they expect my infant daughter to get a drink out of that thing???

I tried the straw sippers, which I now call “stupid things” (I know, genius right?).  Its all or nothing with those too.

I found a cup that didn’t drip out the spout and yet still allowed my daughter to access the juice or milk it contained with a simple tilt of the head & slight suction, but as soon as she dropped it on the floor in favor of her new toy interest, a puddle formed from the milk-fall where the lid and cup supposedly sealed.

So what is a mom to do???   THINKBABY! Finally!  A sippy cup worthy of its praise.  I can hand this perfect thing to my daughter — she can carry it around , drop it twelve times, then decide she wants to have a seat and drink it down — with no problems.  No spills, no drips, no dribbles, no liquid-falls … and she can still actually get a drink out of it!  Yes, seriously.

What more can I say about the thinkbaby sippy cup?   The extra soft spout makes it easy for a baby to transition from a bottle to sippy cup.  The easy to grip handles allow for easy transport from one toy to the next.  Its claims for no spill?  Well, its true.  This thing really doesn’t.  All that and this product, like all of thinkbaby’s, addresses the growing concern over toxic chemicals leaching from plastic baby bottles and sippy cups.  It is free of BPA, phthalates, lead and PVC.    Probably my most favorite feature of this bottle is that there is no rubber stopper or plug to keep track of and ensure is inserted exactly as needed in order for the cup to work properly.   This sippy cup is simple to assemble and disassemble for easy washing (dishwasher safe, top shelf).

thinkbaby also makes bottles that can be converted into sippy cups by purchasing their conversion kit.  (Nice cost-saving, eco-friendly idea!)   The conversion kit is designed to fit the thinkbaby 5oz, 9oz bottles and allows parents to easily transform their thinkbaby bottles simply by replacing the traditional bottle nipple with the sipper-spout and adding the easy-on handles.  So, instead of having to toss out 8 to 16 baby bottles after year one, you can simply transform the bottle into this award winning Sippy Cup and extend the life of your baby bottles.

Thank you, thinkbaby, for your eco & safety consciousness and genius trainer cup!
